Hello all, I recently got a MacBook Pro 2017 for a programming class and I am looking for a mouse that works with the MacBook pro, first I noticed that most mice out there have a nano transmitter which is USB and the MacBook Pro is USB type C. In all honestly I am not looking to spend more than $15 for a mouse.
I've read about Bluetooth mice that don't have a nano transmitter but I am not sure how compatible are these with the MacBook pro. I also read that the new OS Sierra might create havoc with these Bluetooth mice. Any ideas?

I like the Microsoft Surface Arc Mouse. Great design and innovation. Comes in an SE Bluetooth version and a nano transmitter version. The BT version should be compatible with a Mac. They do cost around $50-75. But they fold flat to turn off and store/travel which is really handy. Smaller than a phone at that point. Feels great in the hand and scrolling works great.

I really like my Logitech Performance MX, bought it in 2011 and use it every single day. Still kicking. It's big though. It's $55 on Amazon which is over your budget but I think it's worth it.

I second the Logitech MX Master Mouse, I was introduced to this by a boss, and it is hands down one of the best mice out there for Mac or Windows. It is very customizable, with an adaptive scroll wheel, and is way more ergonomic than an Apple mouse, or any other for that matter. And no dongle needed.

Also one of the underrated features of this mouse, you can easily bluetooth sync this with up to three devices and switch with a click of a button to one of your other devices. I use this for both my work Windows machine and my personal work 2017 MacBook Pro.

I use that mouse too. I bought it specifically so that I could use it on both macOS and bootcamp. It works great as long as I connect to the 5Ghz network instead of the 2.4Ghz network. Plus the lack of a need for a mouse pad is great!

Like the others are saying, I love my MX Master that I keep at my desk. When I am on the go, I keep a MX Anywhere in my backpack.
They are both fine for a dude with big hands. Battery life is great and you do not need the adapter for either of these if you do not want. Just Bluetooth them.

I doubt that you will find a bluetooth mouse for less for $40-$50. Almost anything cheaper usually has a USB receiver...sorry to say. A USB C to USB A dongle will run you $6-$10.

If you are lucky you could find the first version of the MX Master for around 30$. Got mine for that price when the MX 2S was introduced and absolutely love it.

Forget Logitech and Microsoft and Apple and all those other overpriced, name-brand mouses. I bought this bluetooth mouse about two years ago and it's worked flawlessly on all my MacBooks since then. Only had to replace the batteries once, as well. It's an awesome mouse! And it's $15!! Boom!

Nice find.... I feel like a horrible advice giver now. The answers claim it even works on glass.
how's the weight?

The problem is it doesn’t say that it works with a Mac. Also will the forward and back buttons on the side of the mouse work on a Mac allowing the web pages to go forward and backwards?

Edit: OK I just found it on the Amazon webpage it says this
For Mac OS device the side buttons can't work, while other buttons can work good.

Be watchful.
I just read a review on that page stating it works temporarily and then disconnects for Mac.

Agreed, great mouse. Using it right now on a windows machine. But I think it works best with the nano USB transceiver.

Whatever you do, just don't get the Razer Atheris - they say it works with Mac, but it absolutely doesn't (tried it on four different Macs), and the support is awful.

thank you for the prompt response, does the nano transmitter come in type C?

I appreciate everyone's feedback the MX seems to be a great mouse but I honestly dont see myself paying more than $40 for a mouse that I am just going to use to click and scroll, the MX seems awesome but I think is overkill for what I need it for. On the other hand I did see this mouse TeckNet before and caught my attention, I also have heard that it disco or it might disco, or that the new Sierra OS might cause havoc with the connection, I might get this and try it out as Bluetooth, I am getting a dongle just in case. If the TeckNet doesn't work I will report back.
I know this is a mac-forum and by no means I am trying to put Apple down but I think that some or all of the accessories are over priced and Apple doesn't make it easy for anyone to play well with their stuff.

You can probably get a refurbished / used MX Master on eBay or amazon for around that price. I love mine and it works on a glass desk to boot (looking at you Apple Magic Mouse 2).

Hello all, I recently got a MacBook Pro...
Your MacBook Pro already comes with the best pointing device available...the trackpad. If you want to become a virtuoso on the Mac, learn to use the trackpad the gestures that it supports.

I completely agree that the Apple mouse is overpriced and honestly not the greatest, in fact I am sure there are quite a few who’d agree with this. I mean just look up complaints on why do you have to charge the mouse from the bottom on the Apple mouse, and you’ll see quite a bit of hate on it. Lol

If you have a usb hub, or don’t mind plugging in a dongle through a usb-c adapter, and you aren’t concerned with comfort or creature features, you can get plenty of cheap mice from local superstores.

Honestly though if you are looking for something quality, and comfortable you can use all day with no fatigue, you should expect to spend anywhere from $40-100. Like others have posted, you can get the original gen MX Master for about $40 on Amazon, which is a heck of a steal, but again it all depends on the quality level you are searching. Hope the new mouse works for ya!

It does, but for some work (like analytics and what not) a mouse is still more productive. Not to mention if you plan on using the MBP in dock or clamshell mode the trackpad will be inaccessible. I think a mouse is always a wise investment if you do either of the two above things.

Jesus christ, why do the majority of perheriphals always look like an alien had relations with a car crash?

Well, to it's credit though, you can easily turn off all the lights, and it remembers even without the software in the background obviously, as well as all your different settings...what's left is a tiny blue strip underneath where the thumb rests, everything else is black and the wheel is made of a metal material, so it's heavy and super nice in free-roll state...and easy to click back and forth between free-roll and "click-roll" which is nice and not too clicky feeling...

I'm not a gamer. I just did my research, and besides having a cord (which has it's benifits too) this thing performs amazing, coupled with the cloth mouse pad and a nice almost perfect size for my reguluar to large-ish hand I'm sure there are other nice mouses out there, but everytime i pass by and try out different ones this one or the similar ones win every time :) it's super fast and precise, and I love the wide span u can get and quickly do temporary slower mouse moves..I primarily use 3 different speeds, free roll almost always, took out all the extra weights as it's the perfect weight without any, haven't had to fuzz with bluetooth on wait impatiently to scroll down, this thing is a freaking scrolling monster!

Here are some pics I found on the net:
