My prepaid phone account doesn't include "real" call-blocking; it only diverts all incoming calls to voicemail. I've been advise to download a third-party app for my Android phone and use that. But so far, even the apps I've looked at, such as Mr. Number, only let you mark specific numbers to go directly to voicemail. What i really want is an app that just gives the unwanted caller an infinite number of rings, or a message that says "This number is blocked." Etc.

Anybody know of any apps that'll do what I'm looking for? Thanks.

I use free Google Voice account with Hangouts + Hangouts Dialer. When I block a # the other party hears the standard "this # is no longer in service" and nothing goes to my voicemail or SMS/MMS.

Agree with @mi7chy that you need a phone service that supports it. If the call makes it to the phone, any app that auto-rejects the call will cause the carrier voicemail to pick up since voicemail is hosted by the carrier not on the phone. I guess if the app picks up then immediately hangs up it might work, but then the number will be identified as "active" and may result in MORE spam calls.

In my case - I'm on Project Fi and have similar call blocking to Google Voice, I can add a number to the block list through the Fi app and they get a message along the lines of the number being disconnected when they try to call and text messages just never show up.

Had same limitation in the past. Added Essential One prepaid sim to my AT&T account I have with iPhone, the phone now supports blocking. The old AT&T gophone sim did not. I’m sure the activation is why, which was one time fee. Now AT&T Call Protects also works. Also Norton app.

When I had tried with Samsung S8 and Blackberry and prepaid, no luck.

A carrier plan is nice, let me buy iPhone over 30 months $30/mo. And block annoyance calls. Especially since they can ‘spoof’ the area code and 3-digit exchange.

I use Google dialer, and callers that have been reported for spam, come in as red calls, instead of the standard blue screen, so i automatically know it's spam.
