I'm a sports writer for a small newspaper out West, and I also design many of the graphics for our section fronts. Most of them are to illustrate my stories when a photo can't or when a simple portrait just isn't enough.
My designs have caught the eye of the managing editor, and now he's brought up the idea of designing full-time for the entire newsroom.
I'd love to do it, but other than an intermediate knowledge of Photoshop, I don't have many other computer skills. I'm a strong artist with paper and pencil or pen or marker or paint or pastel. However, I need to find a program or two that will allow me to do all that digitally.
I'm guessing that Illustrator might be something to learn, but I've never used it and don't understand the difference between that an Photoshop.
Any thoughts?
