Advice on first MBP!!!!

i am awaiting my 15'' MBP 2.33 w/160 gb. with a glossy screen.
I was planning on using it for graphic design, dreamweaver and light movie editing; mainly adobe's creative suite.
i want to know from the pros if i should have gone with the matte screen???although i plan on buying a external screen(23ACD) soon. Also should i wait for the new MBP to come i am a student and do not NEED the laptop, but i need one asap. should i wait or go ahead and keep the one i ordered??????

The best thing for you to do is do some searching on this forum with your questions. The question whether to wait or not has been asked many times. And the answer is always the same. If you can't wait, buy now. If can wait, then wait. One thing to keep in mind is the C2D MBP is on Rev B and works well. If Apple decides to release a new design of the macbook, which I doubt, it will have its bugs at first. Like most first Rev A products.

So again, just do some searching but don't let peoples bad experiences make your decision for you. I have had my MBP C2D 2.33 for about two months and think its awesome. Its actually shed some light on the idea of getting a mac pro to replace my Windows box.

do u think im set with this congif for awhile 2,500$ is alot of money...up for suggestions to do with the $$$. i want a mobile i think better than desktop. i want to know if there are any designers using the glossy screen???is my config optimal for adobe creative suite???

It would be C2D since CTO doesn't exists. The previous process was CD (Core Duo) but not its the C2D (Core 2 Duo). As far as getting the machine for the money, sure. Its an Apple so you will be paying a price. As far as the screen, thats something that you need to decide. People will tell you that Graphics Artist won't get Glossy cause it brights the colors and looks vivid. Some people will tell you matte is your best choice for realistic colors. What a lot of people need to realize is that professionals have their LCDs color calibrated. I have the glossy and love it. I have no complaints. Its a personal choice that only YOU can decide.

Just got my MBP today. Loved every bit of it. I'm glad I took the step in purchasing it. I kinda figured that when whatever upgrades come by I'll just buy anyways. Unless, Leopard comes out in the next 14 days.

i am a graphic designer using a MBP. i have the matte screen, and i couldn't be happier. the glossy was just too....vivid, as someone said above.

all my screens and monitors are calibrated...you should be calibrated to maintain proper color from screen -> print. i use the eye one display and it works great for me. basically, you want the colors you see on screen to match industry standard color, and that normally doesn't happen with your default monitor profile.

Colour calibration means matching the colours between the screens and print as close as possible. Don't know if you know this already, but screen use RGB and print use CMYK. Have you been to a electronic store where they show all the TVs side by side? While all of them show the same channel, but none of the colours match. That's the same in monitors, they are never the same colours. That's why you have to colour calibrate it to match it as close as possible.

well i knew they didnt match...i was thinking i could have best of both worlds..but i dont think that seems like a good idea.
i have also been told u can adjust to using the glossy screen when printing(just learn to get use to it being off by color).


ALSO if i want the matte screen on my laptop i have to send it in and wait a month for my money to be returned. (i customized it) then i go with matte. With all the waiting i was thinkn jus be patient and go with the "summer release". i have no computer to do my work on at home but have access to college computer lab.

not a good idea. this is a bad habit for a beginning designer to get into, IMHO. once you're out in the real world, you need to know exactly what you're dealing with as far as color goes. most of the work i do absolutely must be done color-correct, or else my company loses a lot of money and i run the risk of losing my job. i like knowing that everything will be correct when i send it off to print.

I dont know what software you are using, but I'm assuming Adobe PS, AI, ID?? You better wait for CS3 to come out before you buy the software cause it'll be universal. While CS2 is useable, but it crashes sometimes and you'll save money from upgrading eventhough student versions are pretty cheap.

CTO simply means that it is a custom order (since you chose glossy instead of the standard matte).

I have Matte, and i think the colours are great. My colleague has glossy, and the colours are definately more vivid. But if you have already ordered it, maybe just wait and see what you think once you get it.

The colors on the matte are not that accurate anyway even with a calibrated profile. I have to use an external monitor for print. Web work is fine on matte, but not print.

correct adobe creative suite i can buy it for 220$ with discount and its got everything from dream to photoshop.

i have to disagree...i'm 100% happy with my calibrated matte screen on my MBP. and a "nicer experience" doesn't matter when you're going for color accuracy.

how is your MBP screen calibrated? what did you use? is it possible that yours wasn't calibrated correctly?

I use mine for basic color correction in Photoshop, Design in Illustrator, video and sound. My screen is Matte also. The glossies are awesome, and I will admit they do seem to display a richer pallete of black to white, and deeper colors, BUT reflections bother me. From one side of the net to the other I haven't seen a unanimous vote on what's better. It's preference.

Calibration can be set up in a custom profile to adjust for the following:
what you see.. is what you get.
1. the colors on your screen..match what prints from your printer..
2. the colors on your screen.. exactly match a visual standard
The adobe suite can use Bridge to cross calibrate adobe programs. I'm not aware if it will calibrate your entire display in any way, but I believe that's a seperate procedure. You will also need to set up a printer profile per each printer.. and if you're very picky.. a different set of profiles for different locations/conditions as ambient light can slightly change your perception

i FINALLY recieved my MBP after a hell of a wait...i just got home now am wondering if i should wait even longer. although i want the glossy i am torn b/w the matte.

torn b/w the 2. should i rip open the package and not turn back or return and await for the screen or even longer for the newer one ???
