I've used my MacbookAir and its cable for 6 years now. The cable on the connector end has just started to fray in this kind of interesting though worrying fashion.

Of course, I could just opt to replace it - it's done it's work. However, if I get a new charger, I'm probably going to feel compelled to get another Macbook, and at this stage, I'm not sure if I want to. I'm looking into other fixes for the time being - possibly sugru or heat shrink tubing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, it seems to happen to all of them.

I had never heard of sugru, interesting possibility. Don't know how you would get shrink wrap tubing on it with disassembly of the charger.

I have disassembled 5 or 6 of the chargers of mine and friends and replaced the cable with one from ebay.

Honestly, you basically already listed the pro solutions; and you can't really get to that without realising that electrical tape etc are also options.

So I doubt anyone can add anything to what you already know. :)

I used a plastic tubular melting compound several times last decade to no avail,
horrible design but the usbc seems to be holding up well.

Thanks for all your insights guys. I only ask because there's several paths that I could take from the info of a couple of quick web searches, and I'm new to all of them. I've ordered sugru for a test, and I'll report back on how things go.

Edit:
Here all the results from 1 pack of sugru after letting it cure for 24 hours. I felt like I had more left over from the magsafe connector bit, so I also stuck some over a frayed lightning connector and a bit over the other end of the magsafe charger.

And, I mean, it looks sorta alright. I rubbed soapy water over the magsafe bit (in comparison to the other bits) so it looks kinda shiny and feels smoother. I can bend it a little but I'll refrain from doing that too much. No idea how long these will last - I'm gonna guess a few months max. But yeah, I bought a pack of 3 for 15 bucks, so not exactly cheap. This is what I have so far from using one pack.
