I think the letter forms need to be stronger. While your current design works fine at a large size, I think the type loses impact when the logo appears at a smaller size...

Personally I think they are too complicated. The logos I remember most clearly are easily drawn by hand. I would work on a design without the higlight and faded drop shadow.

I agree that it is too complicated. Try starting out using just black and white, no gradients. Also, look at it at different sizes. Does it look good at 1 inch wide as it does 3 inches wide?

thanks for your feed back guys. Yes I agree on the letter forms needing to be more imposing.

Just to give you a bit of background on the design - its for a double glazing company. so its supposed to represent water sitting on glass. thats why I used the drop shadow but I think maybe you are right, it could be simplified a little more.

ProTips#
1) Don't confuse designing a logo with FX in Photoshop
2) Keep it simple
3) Adaptability. Needs to replicate on large and small formats
4) Meticulous research. The organistion, the industry, the competition and the target audience all need to be explored for a solid well structure concept.
5) Aesthetics are subjective. However there are aspects such as bad design, wrong colour choice, images in the logotype and incorrect font selection that should be avoided.
6) Timelessness is key. Design styles change overtime, you don't want to jump on the "what's cool today" bandwagon.
