Advice on Macbooks

I am probably going to sell my Powerbook G4 in the coming weeks as I no longer need the "power" in a portable - being that all of my design work is practically done on my desktop machine at home or my iMac at work. I am interested in possibly getting a Macbook. The only thing that is holding me back at this point is that glossy screen (hate it). Do you guys think that Apple will ever give the option of matte screens on the macbooks (perhaps in a BTO option?). I know the Pro models have that option. I think I will stick with the powerbook if this option doesnt become available. Or if an ultra-sweet macbook pro with merom makes its debut anytime soon - though I really don't need something that powerful.

If you don't like that screen, why to buy it?
Just wait for updates, you will be much happier, considering that you already have a great machine and, from what it looks like, doesn't need immediate replacement. You're also considering a MBP as a future choice, and they must be updated b4 holidays season (at least that's what everyone thinks), so you might just wait to see what's coming up and get yourself the LCD screen you want

I really don't understand the issue people have with the glossy screens. I've never once thought my MB was too glossy, and I stare at the screen several hours a day...

I can understand the glossy displays as been a personal option but if I was in for a portable I wouldn't wait for a C2D release of MBP,... It's not like it's going to make your computer that much faster.

Just my 2 cents.

not looking for a faster computer in the c2d. just an upgraded one. if some of the speculations are realized - say a black aluminum enclosure, or higher resolution screens.. these things alone would pique my interest.

but if its just a merom plopped into the current enclosures, i would consider getting the core duo version when the prices drop further (after c2d release). as naked says, speed bump is hardly noticable.

I have a macbook and the screen is not really that glossy at all. In fact I think Apple did a pretty good job on Macbook's screen. Anyway, if glossy screen really bothers you, you may as well get a macbook pro. There are no point of getting something that you hate to look at.

Have you tried to macbook in a apple store? As for update...every rumour is saying "MACBOOK PRO/MACBOOK UPGRADE SOOOOON!!!!". The real question is how soon is "soon"?

it depends what i'm doing, sometimes i love the glossy, and sometimes i hate it.

i guess i don't like it overall though, seeing as how i'm getting a macbook pro (non glossy)

glossy is the future, i doubt their going to offer matte.

I just stopped waiting for updates and got a MB, i needed it for college...

Sometimes I love the glossy screen and some other times I just increase screen brightness. I just love glossy screens, it feels so much more alive!

Why sell the PB? The MacBook probably has more "power." If all you need is a laptop for portable internet and note-taking, your current laptop should be perfectly adequate.

Glossy is nice, really. Especially if you're doing design

Go try them out instore first.
