Hey all, in the next few weeks or so i will be buying a MBP (15") to replace my 12" Powerbook. I'll probably bite the bullet after MSWF. I'm a bit worried about these stories about grainy displays but i really need the laptop next month. I just need some advice from you.

I'll probably buy the 15" base model and upgrade the RAM to 2 Gb myself. I have a SATA harddrive with a capacity of 250 Gb that i will use as an external backup drive. I'll use Superduper to back up the 120 Gb drive that is in the MBP.

I wanted to use the extra space that is on the external drive to store my iTunes library, is this possible? This way i don't need to buy a larger harddrive for the MBP. Can i tell iTunes to look for the music on the external and let it store newly imported music there? I guess i'll need to make two partitions on the drive, on for backup and one for music.

Another question i have is, why is it so hard to find an enclosure for a harddrive with an internal SATA connection and an external Firewire connection? I have only been able to find two of these and they are rather expensive and difficult to buy (in Holland). These are the models i found: Macally enclosure and this Icy Dock enclosure.
If anybody has another tip please tell me so.

Thanx for any info you can provide! :)

Yes you can use the external drive to hold and play your itunes library. Personaly I use IDE drives for External caddys due to there being loads of options for them.
I use Internal Sata drives for all my Audio and Video work. But for playing Mp3's and things that are not in need of High transfer speeds IDE is perfect :). hope this helps.

well i already have this SATA harddrive so i don't really have a choice here between SATA or IDE. but it is good to hear that i can put my iTunes library on the external disc. i might install Bootcamp with Windows on a third partition, anybody knows if thats possible?

Yeh exact issue i was having was finding one with firewire :). It lets you choose the Os you want to boot in to. This kind of thing
