Hi all,

So my dad decided to get a macbook pro last week with the educational discout via my brother. However, He didn't tell anyone he was getting it and if he had told me I would have said wait a week or two for the new cpu. Also, the sales person over the phone said he could not offer my dad the free ipod deal since I had just gotten my macbook with my edu discount on the basis that the offer is not valid for more than one household.

So yea, the macbook pro has been shipped but hasn't arrived yet. Is there any way to return it for a full refund. He did make a custom order by only changing the hd to the 100gb 7200rpm option.

And if not, is there a way for him to get the free ipod deal. I mean since my brother and I are currently living at home while at college, I think that that one household thing is bunk on the part of the ignorance of the apple guy.
Could we call apple and say that the sales person would not let my dad do the ipod deal so they should grant it still although it is not at the time of the order?

Thanks for any help on this

even though my post isnt going to answer ur questions, but to be completely honest, keep the macbook pro. I think most would agree its a safer bet to have a late build of a already awesome machine than a first batch memron.

If ur an apple enthusiast consumer then i would see y u would like to get a memron. but for a solid machine that will help u get thru school a MBP is more then a beast to help u do that. for the ipod issue..hmm..il try going to a store and show them a receipt for proof of purchase so that ur eligible for a ipod. Dont think they'll know u already got a free ipod.

so yea thats my opinion..

ps. for ur brother i mean lol

Well the ipod issue is this. I ordered a macbook for myself at my parents's house and got a free nano. My dad, using my brother's college discount got a macboko pro and was told he was unable to get a free nano since it was the same shipping address as the one I used. This is bulls**t in my opinion

So my question is, is there still a way to get the ipod based on what I believe is the sales person's fault for not letting him order it?

1. BTO computers are not refundable at all. period. Because he got the different HD, Apple will not let him return or exchange it. Sorry, your brother is "stuck" with the MBP.

2. One iPod per household is the rule. It wasn't a mistake by the sales person (you can check this for yourself here - #5 in the "How Do I Qualify..? right at the top). If you had a P.O. box or somewhere else to have had everything shipped, you could have gotten around it, but... Now it's too late anyways, because you can't return the MBP, and the iPod would have had to be on the same receipt.

The new processor isn't that big of a deal, it isn't worth it to return a perfectly functioning computer.
I agree. But he couldn't even if he wanted to, because it's a BTO machine and Apple doesn't offer refunds or exchanges for those.

Deal with it...its a darn good Mac.. however next time, have the person buying it(your dad) talk to someone who follows stuff about new Macs*ie you*

I did that with my grandmom for a PowerBook 17'' and it worked out perfectly, we bought the Rev E model the week it came out..flawless

Well, it's not the sales person's fault as in he was following the rules. But depending on who is willing to help you, you can get away with the whole one ipod per house. I did the free ipod promotion 2 times last year and my address was the same in each try. That same address is my billing address (credit card) and what was on my drivers licence.

I bought a powerbook and an ipod the first time without problems. But then the powerbook was stolen. So I went back the same year and bought another powerbook and an ipod and asked the sales person how I can get the rebate. But he told me that I couldn't use the same promotion because I had already done it the same year. I think the agreement in the student discount says 1 computer per 1 calendar year. So I bought the computer using my brother's discount and the sales person told me a back door to getting another ipod. (It was nice of him, I didn't even ask.) He told me that before the 2 weeks of purchase that I should come back to the store (the same store I bought the powerbook in) with the receipt and a school address. I live on campus but my perm address was my parent's address. So I brought a letter addressed to me in my school address and it was enough proof I guess. What he did was he took my receipt for my powerbook and returned it and then purchased it again with the ipod so that the new receipt will have both powerbook and ipod printed on it. With that I was able to do the rebate twice.

Well considering my dad told the sales person the scenario as in could he use the edu discount with one of our accounts (me and my brother's), I don't think its illegal and I personally have a clear conscience on the matter

i hate to be picky like this (read: i actually like to be picky like this), but it's not Memrom; it's Merom.

i'd stick with the computer he ordered. unless you do really cpu-intensive tasks, you won't notice the difference. forget about the iPod - it's one more thing you don't actually need, plus it seems to be against apple's rules.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
