Hi! i have a 27 inch 2017 5K imac with 512gb but i'm not sure if it's pcie or sata, if it is pcie what brand and size do you guys recommend? do i need a some kind of adapter with it to install or maybe my 512gb has an adapter already? or should i just add another sata ssd and stay with 512gb? if i'm going to just add another sata ssd do i need adapter for it? a heat sensor? which brand is good and what is the maximum size capacity? thank you so much in advance.

You can easily confirm what it has using System Information. When you go to About this Mac there is a button you can click to bring this up.

It only can have a SATA HDD if it shipped with a HDD or Fusion Drive from the factory.

Best to update to latest security update for Mojave or Catalina or latest Big Sur before replacing the SSD.

Which capacity you go with depends on personal budget and preference.

Replacing the blade SSD is a lot of work. You should read iFixit (or similar) guides and/or watch OWC (or similar) videos before making a purchase.

There are several suggestions. The SSD upgrades are much more common with late 2013 to 2015 MBPs as the upgrade is much easier.
