So I ordered my macbook air from best buy thinking that they actually had the product in stock. I opted for express shipping which would have gotten it to my house monday or tuesday. Of course the order is backordered and the rep claims that Best Buy didn't receive their order from apple and none of the orders they have are being processed at all yet. Ordinarily the only trouble would be my own impatience but complicating matters is the fact that I tied my money up in best buy gift cards so I could use 2 forms of payment online along with the fact that I'm moving at the end of the month. I'm now in a position where I have to buy it from bestbuy and my only hope is that it either ships very soon or is available in store so I can switch to pickup. My question is: Should I just cancel now so that they can credit my money back to my best buy credit card asap and then keep trying to find one in a local store? Or should I just wait it out and make a decision closer to the 28th or so? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm kicking myself for not just paying cash at the apple store.

Did the rep not give you an anticipated delivery date?

Thanks for responding. He didn't even have an estimate I'm afraid. The website still shows them as shipping in 2-5 business days (and there's absolutely no indication that they're back ordered until after you've already checked out) but he said there was no guarantee as they did not get their expected shipment. The only thing he was able to do for me was to open a "case" because when I ordered they were listed at the full apple retail price and the 65 dollar discount went into effect afterwards so he said that when it did finally ship I would either be refunded the 65 dollars plus tax automatically or I could use the number he gave me to call back and get the refund. My hope is that since they're still showing the 2-5 business days that it's accurate but I know people have had issues with Best Buy backorders before.

I would ring them, and push for a date (speak to a Supervisor). Explain your situation that your moving and you need to know a date. If, as I suspect you don't get any luck, see what they can offer you.

Thanks. I'm going to have to figure something out. My only hope is that there's an alleged shipment coming into the store Thursday with only 4 of the model I want. If it hasn't shipped and I can get them to switch my online order to a store pickup of one of those models then I might be in business but obviously with only 4 models arriving the chances of that are slim at best.
