I’m interested in upgrading my MacBook Pro because it’s been a decade now.

The options I’m thinking of are:

MacBook Air (i5, 16 GB RAM, 128 or 256 GB storage)

Or

iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and Pencil

I would consider a MacBook Pro, but only after they upgrade the keyboard.

My main concern is longevity. This isn’t a device I will be wanting to upgrade in the next few years. Maybe 5-10 years of use (unless unforeseen circumstances require otherwise). That’s why I went with that configuration for the MacBook Air.

My current use is pretty simple:

Shopping Online, YouTube/Entertainment, Managing my Credit Card statements, etc.

I could settle on an iPad Air, but I want a large screen.

Thoughts?

I think you'd be happier with a MacBook, considering you're already on a MBP, the move to iPad might bring up some problems. I can also see the MBA getting software updates for longer than the iPad air, which is already 2 years old spec wise. Another very important piece in the longevity/stability area, is that with a Mac you can always revert your OS if a new update causes major problems, with iOS this is very difficult/impossible to do.

I’d go with a proper laptop if you’re expecting to keep it for a decade. My secondary laptop is a late 2013 top of the line MacBook Air which is still getting MacOS support and runs like a champ.
