I don't really play many PC / Mac games, more of a PS3 online COD passion, but I used to love playing the odd game of Age of Empires on my PC, however now having switched almost fully at home to the world of Mac, I was looking for something to play and have just found out that with Lion that Age of Empires no longer works...

So anybody any recomendations for something similar?

Don't really want to do bootcamp and play in Windows, as this is only thing I would use it for.

I have a 2010 MacBook Air and a 2011 iMac 27 with the i7.

Cheers,

Sadly, you're right. Classic strategy games like "Age of Empires 2", "Rise of Nations", etc. no longer work with OS X Lion due to needing Rosetta. :(

IMHO, with a dearth of great strategy games available for Mac, this is a huge loss for Mac gamers like me & just one reason why I'm switching most of my gaming to Windows 7. FWIW, the Mac "AoE 2 " community are very disappointed & hoping someone can do a Rosetta patch, but I think a satisfactory solution here seems unlikely.

However, I've read that the excellent "Age of Empires 3" + both expansion packs, still work with Lion. Ditto the older "Age of Mythology" (though I hope someone can confirm the latter).

You also have brilliant strategy games like "Rome: Total War" for Mac. Maybe others can suggest other titles but, IMO, quality strategy games on a par with AoE 2 are very limited for Mac.

could always get the Windows version of AoE and port it yourself using Wineskin... it *should* work decently.

or you can go to portingteam.com forums (forums are currently down for moving to a new server) and look for AoE wrappers other people have made you can download and use so you don't have to do the porting work yourself.
