I've installed the 64bit version of Windows 7 beta on my MacBook in bootcamp. All runs fine except I get no Aero theme. I ran the rating test and it shows the machine at 1.0 which of course won't run Aero. I installed the Bootcamp drivers from the OSX install cd and two things will not install (Key managemet or something and Apple HAL).

How can I get the Aero theme to be available in Bootcamp? Do I need the 32bit version?

Which MacBook and can you check if you have the 64-bit drivers by exploring your DVD?

From what I've read, Apple's Boot Camp drivers do not yet support 64-bit, so yes, I'd reckon you need the 32-bit edition.

Although what is the GPU in the MacBook Pro? You might be able to get drivers for it. If it's the newer ones, try nVidia drivers.

I use 32-bit Windows 7 on my MacBook and Aero Glass works fine, though, so if everything else listed fails, then you'll have to stick with 32-bit until Apple releases new drivers.

The Early 2008 Mac Pro shipped with the first 64-bit Vista drivers. Newer Macs should come with them as well. Anything older is going to require you to hunt for a download online.

...er, they've had 64-bit drivers for over a year now. I don't know where you got that from but it's not true.


To the OP, run Windows Update. It should show up with the correct Nvidia driver. The Boot Camp installation works perfectly in Vista but for some reason not nearly as well (yet?) in Windows 7. Audio and video drivers don't really get installed initially for some reason. But yeah, run Windows Update. And no, you don't need the 32-bit version. If anything you should steer clear from it.

Great. I'll try that thanks all for the help. I'll try running windows update in bootcamp when I get home. Windows 7 seems ok so far. I want the added eye candy though.

What I had to do on my July 2008 MacBook Pro was go into the disk, find the drivers folder, then the nVidia folder, and select like "nvidiamobilex64" or something like that and then it worked flawlessly.

Yes, and it shouldn't work with any problems. The procedure is like always: install your copy of Windows and then install the drivers from your Leopard DVD.

And if you still can't get Aero to work, run Windows Update. nVidia releases drivers through Windows Update on a periodic basis, and if detected, will be automatically installed. This should give you Aero Glass.

And if none of the above work, then manually get drivers from nVidia's site.

I may need to try the latter. I went through the process running windows update from Win7 and all it downloads is security stuff. Do you mean go to MS website and run update from there?
