For those looking for something that can spank Apple Photos, at least in image adjustment capability, or a cheaper alternative to Photoshop, check it out. I'm pretty sure they'll have a demo, and the release candidate beta might still be available as well.

The good news is that it has a Media Browser which can reach into Aperture, iPhoto, or Photos libraries, and also into folders. The bad news is that at least for me it isn't working with 10.10.4 Photos, although they're working on it.

Very interested in this (just purchased it).

I really need to understand what workflow is 'best' for editing RAW files within Affinity Photo, in combination with a DAM. Hoping Apple Photos (next version?) will allow a round trip with ease?

Looking forward, I really hope Affinity build in DAM functionality so I can use non-destructive editing all from within Affinity Photos. There is definitely a hole in the market since Aperture was killed - Lightroom does not fit in with the Apple ecosystem well, CaptureOne is a lot more expensive.

I am trying out picasa as a dam with Affinity, as a Photoshop lightroom replacement. I do not like lightrooms way or organizing files so I always used my own file folder structure. Affinity shows promise but we will see over the next few weeks.

You might also try looking at XNViewMP if you use Picasa. It has some similarities, and is actually a pretty powerful browser-type photo manager. Especially good with keywords. And free.

Just seen Pixave, which looks excellent and may just be enough of a DAM for my requirements. Not sure what the "round-trip" will be like, but at the price it's worth a shot.

Anyone tried it - very little out there in the way of reviews or comments.

I wish Pixave had a demo. I use Ember, which Pixave seems to be like. Nice that it does PDFs, and that epub export looked nice. But it doesn't really do all that one would need in a real DAM, keywording, filtering, adjusting, etc. Also, I couldn't quite figure out what it does with images...seems to copy them into a library? not reference them?
