I know there are many threads about jailbreaking, and I didn't find this with a quick search.

I Jailbroke my phone a few days ago when it was running 1.1.1 OTB. To my surprise, after upgrading to 1.1.2, installer.app and all of my downloaded apps vanished.

My question is, will downgrading to 1.1.1, jailbreaking and running the oktoprep software, then upgrading to 1.1.2 cause any irreversible damage? I.e. Will I be able to restore the phone to its factory state so future updates can be installed? Or is the firmware permanently damaged by jailbreaking 1.1.2 so that Apple can see it was jailbroken?

Thanks.

Yes they can.

The OS does not overwrite all the data stored in the Library and Media partitions so assuming they have the tools to read your file structure they will see remnants of your last Jailbreak.

Why were you surprised when your Apps disappeared. Didn't you do your research first. Its been patently obvious for the last four moths that when you upgrade firmware it wipes your apps and re-locks unlocked phones.

Read any Mac blog on the internet and you find this out.

No one is forcing you to JB again and if you are really worried about problems with Apple upgrade to 113 when it comes out, looks like it will have useful additions, and then happily run the official apps in March or April.

Thanks for all of the info. My understanding was that if you Jailbroke 1.1.1 first, then simply upgraded, things would be okay. Obviously I was mistaken, as I now am aware. I don't intend to jailbreak again due to the upcoming 1.1.3 update as well as your advice.

Unfortunately what the info meant was that if you JBed 111 and installed OkToPrep you would be able to JB 112. You still had to re-customize 112. Its possible a similar workaround will be found for 113, but I doubt that will happen before the SDK drops which will make it far less necessary to hack your phone.

I just hope the upgraded 113 apps can be installed on 112.

no damage will be caused to your iphone by jailbreaking

your iphone will not be damaged by jailbreaking. Just all your contacts, pics etc. will be erased on your iphone and the phone will will return to the factory settings :apple:
