I am afraid to update because i dont know if i loose my already installed hacked apps because of my modified mobile installation?

anyone knows what happens to the apps if upgrade, any experience so far?

aptbackup, you can find it in cydia. I think that's what it's called, use that to backup any apps you got from cydia...

i am talking about the hacked paying apps form itunes store will i loose them after upgrading to 2.2?

Thats what aptbackup is for.

He is talking about hacked iTunes store IPA's....aptbackup does nothing for that.

FYI...Mobileinstallation for 2.1 works on 2.2

EDIT: Also aptbackup didn't do jack for me. In other words, it wouldn't even restore my Cydia apps... I used it following these steps:

http://sleepers.net/2008/09/19/how-to-upgrade-in-itunes/

It kept telling me I needed to have a previous backup....which I did. That app is a waste of time in my opinion.

I used the mobile installation patch from 2.1 for 2.2 and when go to the app store and there is an update I click on update it will just say loading and loading and nothing happens. Only way to stop that is when i connect it to itunes and then its says itunes purchases has been transfered to your computer. Anyone else having similar problems? Maybe i should try a different Mobile installation file.

Did you set your permissions to 755 first and reboot?

To confirm I am using the 2.1 mobile installation file without any issues or 2.2.

I update through the phone.

I don't do that anymore. When I was on 2.1 I had an app that was not completely removed and subsequently the update didn't stick (don't know if categories had anything to do with it). When I manually deleted it, iTunes still thought it was on my phone...so I couldn't reinstall it. Took me forever to get it fixed.

I upgraded to 2.2 and then (before restoring) jailbroke, and now there is no Appbackup in Cydia, or Aptbackup (I still don't remember which is actually the name of it.)

anybody know what source its from?(app-aptbackup?)

Don't bother, it doesn't work, which is probably why it is removed.

so How do I get any of my apps back? I didn't actually make a list of 'em before I restored. I did create a backup in iTunes though.

I always backup apps manually via SSH, to include cracks. I used the backups as a list and reinstalled that way. The reason I did that is because SSHing apps to /Applications doesn't seem to allow Cydia to recognize them and therefore do not get alerted to updates.

I'm not sure how you created backups of Cydia apps in iTunes. The backup you speak of is the "list" that aptbackup created....then when you press restore, it's supposed to re-download all the apps on that list. Like I said, it doesn't work on 2.2

yup i get that it does't work. but, I just clicked on Back-up on iTunes. I know it doesn't back up Cydia apps, but I did get a backup copy of all of my themes that I had on winterboard(by SSHing) didn't think about backing up my apps that way though

Me too. Oh well... I'm working on getting everything back to the way that I like it now. It's taking longer, but perhaps this way, I'll have better performance and disc space from not downloading something that I have long forgotten, and no longer use.

Heh... You're using Installous, right?

This is a bug within Installous. To fix it, follow these instructions:

1. SSH into your device.

2. Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist

3. Backup the file, just in case (I've never need it, but it's better to be safe).

4. Delete the file from your device.

5. Hard reboot (not respring)

You will now be able to update apps in iTunes on your device. As soon as you use Installous again though, this will continue to happen. Puy0 is aware of the problem, and I believe he's working on a fix.

um how is this thread even still here? you're not allowed to discuss obtaining illegal (cracked) apps on this site.
