I don't know exactly when this happened - either it was when I upgraded to 10.4.1, 10.4.2, or when I installed the recent security updates, but my DVD-RAM drive (factory with my 450mhz G4) will no longer read my burnt DVD-Rs. All other DVDs work just fine, including my retail DVDs (like for Tiger) and movie DVDs. This is a major problem for me because I like to backup all my DVD disks (data - like Tiger, not movies) and then use the copy instead of the master (much less wear and tear on my masters). I also have a lot of backed up data on DVD-Rs and if I can't read them then how will I restore? I tested all of my burnt DVD-Rs on my work computer and they are fine, and they all read on my 450mhz G4 before a few weeks ago when I installed 10.4.1 or 10.4.2 or the recent security updates - not sure because I haven't used any of them since then. I saw a note somewhere on the internet about someone having problems with creating a bootable DVD from a disk image in 10.4.2, but it didn't really pertain to this issue. I know all my DVD-Rs are good. Final note, the disk goes into the drive, it spins and makes a bit of noise, the hard drive crunches for a second and then the disk spits out, every time! I've tried seven different disks that I know work, and are even bootable. Does anybody have a clue as to what this problem is?
