For two days now it has run extremely hot if I use it for more than 5 mins. Difficult to hold hot. My battery is draining significantly. I figured it was indexing after the update the first day but we are into day 2 and it does the same. All day. Anyone else having this issue? I’ll give it another couple days and if this continues contact Apple.

It may sound silly, but have you ever tried to close all open apps in the background and then restart your device?
Give it a few more days. It usually settles down in my experience. Most likely the system is busy as you say. A restart is always a good idea, as @BR4DOKYBrazil suggests. You could also try a Force Reset.
