Hi Guys
I am on my third pair of AirPods right now. The first one had the battery issue but important for this topic are the second and the third one. Because they have the exact same issues. Please note automatic ear detection is always on.
  • The sound output won't change automatically to AirPods when I put them in. With my first Pair I always heard the "connection sound" and sound was directed to the AirPods with the headphone icon in the status bar.
  • Music won't pause when I put one AirPod out. Sometimes when I put one out the sound output just changes back to iPhone

Now I really cannot believe that those pairs both have the same problem. Is there maybe something different wrong? I can't figure it out.

I tried resetting, re-pairing, turning on-off the automatic ear detection. Nothing helped.

Would be great to hear your thoughts and advices.
Thank you!

Haven't heard of any of the issues you're speaking of, besides the initial battery issue. I agree with AppleRobert, make a Genius appointment and walk the representative through the issues your experiencing in person and replicate the problems.

Bizarre!

I've brought three too but only because one was for the bf, one for me, and another at bf dime when he lost his. No issues with any of the AirPods...and it was a bit difficult getting them in stores

Make sure you're on the latest OS
When you say resetting do you mean in settings > general > reset > reset all settings?

Do you have a back up so you can try erasing the whole phone & restoring from backup?

Before you do that though, I would unpair your AirPods with your current iPhone and borrow someone else's phone and see how it pairs. Because the AirPods utilize iCloud to easily pair between OS and iOS devices, make sure you unpair the AirPods again once you finish testing it

By testing it I mean, on the borrowed iPhone...see if it has the same issues. E.g. It won't automatically pick up the AirPods when you put them in (like flicking open the case won't trigger the AirPods pop up) and when you remove one AirPod it won't stop the music and restart when you put the AirPod back in.

If it has the same issues on another phone...then it's clear it's the AirPods.

Also just to be clear, when you open the case near your phone, and the phone is unlocked and Bluetooth is on, it doesn't have the menu pop up consistently or once in awhile? Sometimes mine doesn't...like maybe once or twice since I've had it (12/21) but for the most part it does. I've also noticed sometimes if I take one out and put it in my pocket and later on, say, cover it with my fingers, it will trigger the detection.
