The second generation iPad won't come out until 2011. They can't keep them on the shelves as it is. They're currently back ordered at Best Buy, and waiting lists are setup at the Apple stores. We won't see an update this fall.

There will be generation 3 after generation 2, then generation 4 after that. Does it do what you want now and is it worth it to you? There's your answer. It's said over and over in this forum and any other one that it tech related - there is always something better coming.

For me it's a big YES! (answering "is it worth it")

I was on cloud 9 in the first week, the second week I started to question whether or not it was a good purchase. I then relaxed and let the iPad meld in to my life (if you know what I mean). Nowadays I use it for stuff I didn't think I'd use it for. 99% of my online time is with the iPad, it's great to pick up and look something up with during the TV commercials :) It's also great to read magazines on with the Zinio and Press reader app's.

Whenever I leave the house, my iPad is with me :p

For it's current capabilities, it definitely suits my needs.

However, 1st gen devices will always be improved upon and am looking forward to what will be added to the next iPad. If you can wait, then definitely wait.

It annoys me for some reason that Apple releases revisions every year. I know that's how :apple: rolls but I guess I'll have an outdated iPhone 4 and iPad next year.

Don't buy it if you need to ask for advice on wether to buy it or not. When I really need or want something I don't ask around for other opinions, of course I do research, but if I really want it I get it. The way you use the iPad will be different than the way a young family will use it to entertain their kids, etc...

Every generation will almost always be better than the previous, especially in Tech.

That is how life rolls. No matter what it is, its going to either be improved upon or die out!

My daily usage has been consistent since the day I got Pages loaded. As I tweak how I use it, I only see my usage going up, but I bought my device to fill two very specific needs and I am very satisfied. I have never once cursed any "first generation-ness", either. I would be seriously annoyed with myself had I waited for the next batch to roll out. What a waste of time that would have been.

iPad Purchase

If you have a need/use, the get it now. If you are just buying it to buy, then wait.

Yes, it was/is worth every penny for me.

I've used it every day since I got it. Just got back from nearly 4 weeks on the road and the iPad was my sole internet and email device.

Yep, still worth it.

The unexpected use for me is the time saving I get by reading / writing when putting kids to sleep. Typing on a laptop is too loud for that; and it's too dark to read a normal book. iPad addresses that.

First generation Apple products have been known to be feature-poor, overpriced and having all sorts of problems.

But do you want to spend your life with waiting? The iPad is a much-anticipated product, so why not just enjoy it and suffer a bit of depreciation in half a year? Is it worth $300 for you to have an iPad for a year?

The iPad has been one of the best purchases I've ever made. I absolutely love this device. It is my first choice, my go to device, for everything it is capable of, and has provided some functionality in my line of work that no no other device can fulfill, or at least not from a practical sense. If I didn't own one already, and knew what I knew now, I would buy one today, because I wouldn't want to go the next...8 or 9 months perhaps without one.

However, if you don't have a burning desire to get one and are already obsessing about the features you might miss out on in the next version, maybe you should wait. You could always buy now, sell it later and therefore upgrade for a relatively minor fee. Apple products hold their value very well.

I don't really need much more out of my iPad than what it does now. Of course, I wouldn't turn away speed, ram, storage increases, retina display or the like, but those things would be relatively minor improvements to a device who's form factor has already drastically changed the way I use my computers.
