Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a 21.5" iMac in the forseeable future, but there's something stopping me.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the reason why the 21.5" iMac did not have an i5/i7 option because of the limited space inside its aluminium body?
And since today, even the 15" MacBook Pro has an i5 as standard (minimum),
seeing as Apple have managed to shoehorn the chip into a space around half the size of the iMac,
would it not be unreasonable to see 21" iMac updates utilising these chips (as standard/option) very soon?

Thanks,

Totally different i5 chips. The iMac has desktop i5's, the laptops have low TDP mobile cpu's.

I was gonna come here and ask a slightly similar question.

Has Apple set themselves up for some problems with the iMac's having "old" C2D chips vs the i3/i5/i7 designated chips? So the 27" rocks a full sized desktop i5 or i7 chip but the 21.5" iMacs have mobile C2D chips? Are they now stuck with the C2D for a while until they fix the whole line and make the 21.5" come with mobile i3 (base) and mobile i5 (middle) and desktop i5 (base 27") and the desktop i7 the high end 27"?

I'm also mad the i3 didn't make it into the 13" MBP with an 8hr battery life.

No, I think the 21.5 inch iMacs will most certainly have clarkdales sooner or later.

actually you should consider that imac were updated BEFORE these MBP

next update will imac Rev B, probably this summer

Really hope they upgrade the 21.5 soon .... don't want to invest in c2d, especially as a 3D designer. And I have no need for the 27 inch :apple:

Really? Do you use two screens? I prefer one big screen and LOVE the extra space over my 24". I'll usually get the bigger screen on my desktop. I'm the opposite about laptops though.

Yeah I use two (or three) screen's :) I always prefer my second screen to be much smaller though... no idea why!

I was coming here to ask the exact same question: I'd really like the extra power of the i5 or i7 for video stuff but I just don't need a 27 inch screen.

I'm not au fait with all the codenames but Clarkdales are not the ones in the 27 iMacs, right?

So if I really do want a desktop i5 or i7 I'm going to have to find somewhere for a 27 inch monster?
