Since the July re-fresh I have had 3 iMacs and all have had the yellow tinge issue. Working with alot of white background photography, its simply un-workable for me and I have decided to just get a refund now. Applecare have had no issue in sending a replacement out to me but after the third one it's come to a point that I need to stop wasting my time and energy.

I might go into a store to see if I can test the screen before buying but may just have to look elsewhere now unfortunately. A shame because I really wanted to work with this iMac but I just may have been very unlucky.

I think most general user's wont notice the tint, and there will be many machines without the issue but it's not like we're making it up. For a machine that starts at £999 and boasts about its display, there shouldnt be this many reports of problems.

Disappointed. :(

Its not as widespread as people think. Just go in the store and explain your situation, they'll do their best to help you out. Especially if you speak to a manager

I would be, too.
At this point, consider a refurb Mac Pro and purchase whatever display you want. Price/performance should be similar. The downside is it isn't as sleek and space-friendly as an all-in-one.

Yeah thanks, that's a good idea actually. Apple called me back since I posted this and said that if I call them before going into a store, they will call the manager and explain the situation to me and ask him/her to unbox a machine and check its ok before selling so I may do that this weekend. It seemed quite a reasonable offer.

@ 3lionsbecks - really no need to be like that, can't see the point. People who have seen my latest screen without knowing I have an issue with it have even said "Umm, why is your screen yellow?" - that's how obvious it is.

I also agree though that there must be lots of screens that are totally fine, and a forum like this will always make it look worse than it is because people only tend to report problems. Still, I've had three now so I'm either very unlucky or apple still have some QC issues.

evidence...?

the 2 PC Worlds and 1 KRCS I've been in recently all had yellow iMacs.

the only place that didn't was the Apple store..... go figure!

OP save ya money and get a kick ass x86/64 machine with a bigger monitor and then have a weekend away in Dublin with the change!!

My screen I *think* has really faint yellowing. I'm not sure if it's me (expecting to see yellow where there is none) or the screen itself, it's certainly not bad and it's certainly hard to spot. I guess it's probably a bit of both.

I do like the screen, I can see why some people find it hard on the eyes. Crazy as it may sound, why not buy a second screen and use that for editing, keeping the 21.5" free for all the tool windows etc that go with it. Not totally ideal I grant you but it may be the best way to get the machine and display you need.

Yellow tinge

Yep, having exactly the same issues.

Went through 3 late 09 models, first one wouldn't wake from sleep, the other two were tinged yellow.

So decided to wait to buy a refresh.

This is my 2nd 21.5" iMac i3 (£999 model) and both have been yellow at the bottom.

The serial starts W8023....

Was gonna just make do, but every time I have a white or even light screen, it's there!

It's a shame as it's a great machine otherwise. Getting a 27" (they seem to be a lot better now) or a MBP are just a bit too much out of my price range.

Also Mac mini's aren't that good value if you have to buy a separate screen.
