Hello there,

I /cd Users and typed sudo du -h -d 1.
What i got is the following...

15G ./.savvy
0B ./ftp
2.3G ./savvy
8.0K ./Shared
17G .

My naived question is what's the different between the directory '.savvy' and 'savvy'.
Can I delete the former as it takes out a lot of my hd space.
Thanks

Savvy

savvy is your home folder, but a dot at the beginning of a file or folder name will make it hidden to the standard ls command, and Finder. I wouldn't delete anything unless you're sure what it is, especially if it's big and hidden.

FWIW, when I run the same command I get:

40G ./mduser63
194M ./Shared
40G .

Note that there is no .mduser63 folder here. I have no idea why yours is different. If you cd to .savvy, what do you see (run the du command or 'ls -a' to make sure you reveal hidden stuff).

Me either, I dont know why it is there.
Anyway after i cd the directory and ls -a, I got this...

. Library
.. savvy.sparseimage

Any idea?

savvy.sparseimage is a disk image (like a .dmg). Still, I have no idea what that folder is doing there. Maybe someone else can provide some insight.

Apparently, after I turned on FileVault, the size of .savvy decrease to 2.6G. Eventhough, I don't know what really hapenning, that's good enough as a temporary solution.

Thnaks
