Hi,
I have a Time Machine disk and an another external drive. I usually make a backup to the Time Machine disk and then copy the whole sparsebundle to the external drive for "cold storage".

I just use Finder to do the copying and everything has been fine before (even when the sparsebundle is encrypted).

After upgrade to 12.4 Time Machine backup works fine. But I no longer can copy the sparsebundle to the external drive. Copying works up until its almost finished and then Finder complains about permissions and copy halts. I have administrator privileges and I am able to mount the sparsebundle. Previously everything worked perfectly with the exact same steps.

Anybody else have similar issues? Any idea if this is fixed in the new 12.5 beta? I don't have an active developer account now so I can't check the notes.

Small update to this. Tried "sudo cp" using terminal and I guess it kinda worked.
It did complain "sparsebundle/lock: Resource temporarily unavailable" at the end.
But this time I did get a mountable sparsebundle on my external drive. I guess this is good enough. Though, I'm a little bit worried that if I have to restore from this "cold backup" it might not work perfectly. (Did not try rsync to copy, maybe that could work too.)

FWIW, I always use rsync to make copies of things like that. (Note, it's been awhile since I made a copy of my TM sparsebundle, but indeed I used rsync for that.)

Looks like TM just never released the .lock file even though I turned backups off. Seems other files copied just fine. So all good.

Thanks for the tip on rsync. Rsync also allows me to see the progress during copy and a check to compare that all the files are copied afterward. I'll use that from now on!
