So after much help from the members on this board I decided to go with the macbook pro 15inch 2.2Ghz model & I LOVE IT! Thanks again for all the help! Thankfully my computer works great and I have no "real" issues - just some things that I'm sure have to do with me being a novice.

I have a couple of novice questions about the laptop:
1)When the light in my room and/or screen changes the brightness of the screen changes - often to a degree I dont prefer and I have to manually change it back. Is there a way to stop this?

2)When I close the lid the mac goes to sleep. Is there a way to stop this?

I also have a software/OS question that I will post here (i know this is not the right forum but I dont think there important enough questions to start another thread)

1) I installed parallels (WHICH I LOVE) twice. I installed the older version by accident the first time and I believe I deleted it by using the uninstall button button that came with the software and then dragging the files to the trash - So the question is - By just dragging files to the trash does that delete the program completely (I noticed some small text files still lingering around that I moved to the trash as well. Did I fully uninstall it? I dont want two virtualization softwares on my machine, slowing it down. AND in general by dragging files to the trash delete a program correctly?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

HI, Congrats on you new machine. Im not sure about the last two Qs but if you go into system preferences and the displays you can un tick the ambient light sensor to stop it adjusting itself.

Hope this helps

Regarding your second and third questions:
2) I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, to be honest... that is often referred to as "clamshell mode" by members of this forum. The reason it's not recommended (by me, at least) is that it can lead to overheating problems. Several users on these forums have experienced partially melted keys from leaving their laptops running in clamshell mode for too long:eek:
3) It depends on the program, actually. Most programs only leave preference files and support files behind in your user Library (and sometimes the global Library too). These can be safely left behind without slowing down your machine, or deleted if you want to completely remove the application in question. If the application comes with an uninstaller, by all means use that instead.
