I waited for 10.8.1 to come out before upgrading to ML. Now, as it did with Lion, the upgrade has killed my ability to have Time Machine back up to my WD Sharespace NAS.

Anyone else? Any fixes?

Thanks

I have the same problem and all solutions I found didn't work yet. :-\

In my case, I find that the WDSharespace-Backup share is not working. In Finder, I can't connect to it and when I try to select it in Time Machine, it changes automatically to WDSharespace network share. :(

So odd as Apple [generally] uses WD HDD's exclusively (and Toshiba for SSD's). I got lucky with my Synology NAS, they were on top of the SMB issue with 10.7 and never had an issue with it. If anyone is considering a NAS, I would recommend Synology over Drobo, WD, etc.

Good luck! Hope it works out :)

I don't think it has anything to do with the drive inside itself. All these NAS units work with Time Machine by implementing Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), and it seems like every time a new version of OS X comes out the AFP implementation in some of these NAS devices breaks and the devices require a firmware update to fix it.

Oh I know, it's with the F/W or implementation with the new SAMBA or AFP protocols. Many NAS's weren't 10.7 compatible due to Apple's new SAMBA protocol, only "Synology" systems were on top of the matter from DP1. I was simply commenting on my experiences with NAS's and how few seemed to be on the mark with Apple's OS X modifications. It's not the company's issue as it is Apple's for modifying common protocols, however the manufacturer should be addressing the matter before the consumer release. :)

I apologize, it sounded like you thought it had to do with the WD drive. :)

I agree this should not be happening. One would think the NAS vendors would get the early dev. versions of Mountain Lion and make firmware changes before the release, but it appears this is not the case.

No need to apologize, all good :)

I wish Apple would work better with third party manufacturers. I realize they set their own hardware configurations, yet it'd be convenient if they helped out with more development on third party kext's, updates, etc. instead of just handing it all over to the other guys. Oh well.

Hope everyone's having a great holiday weekend! :)
