Age of Empires 3 on iMac w/128MB 2400XT

Hey all:
I am looking to purchase an iMac and was wondering how well it will run Age of Empires III (under Windows XP SP3/Boot camp). I am looking at the previous generation iMac with the 128MB Radeon HD 2400 XT. I currently run AOE3 on a PC with XP and a 128MB Geforce 7300LE and its acceptable. Will the iMac match (or hopefully beat) the performance of that machine? Thanks for your help!

Has anybody tried this? If not AOE3, has anybody tried any other somewhat recent games? I'm not looking to play Crysis or anything...

On an iMac with that graphics card (and bootcamp'ed WinXP SP3), I've run Assassin's Creed (which is a terrible port) acceptably and Burnout Paradise excellently, both at 1680x1050 (the 20" native resolution). The ATI 2400 may not be a 4870, but it's a big step up from Intel's efforts for me!

So yes, I think that the iMac should at least equal performance of the 7300LE.

Age of Empires 3 on iMac

Hey guys,

I'm new to the MacRumors Forums and I just wanted to pop in and say that I've successfully run Age of Empires 3 in Windows XP Home through boot camp with no problem. I have the base-end alluminum macbook 2.0Ghz with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M--the same card as the new 2009 low end iMac except that the iMac has more RAM.My friend has the same iMac as you I believe, with a 128mb card, and I'm guessing if it runs well for me on my laptop and he plays more demanding games on his, then you should be fine.

Thanks for the posts. I've debated between the iMac and the new Mini - I'm still kind of tossed up, to be honest. The iMac comes in cheaper all in all, though - and has a dedicated video card (even though the Mini's 9400M isn't shabby). I, too, have played AOE3 on the new Macbook (my sister has one) and its great. However, I read (and Apple says so, too) that the iMac's 2400XT is a lesser card than the integrated 9400M. But I think it will be OK. When I get ready to order, if the $999 (refurb) model with the 256MB 2600XT is available, I'll get it. Thanks!
