Hi All,

Wondering if either of my machines can run Age of Empires IV. Steam sale is on and I was really hoping to get it. Only problem is neither of my machines have AVX Support with AOE IV says it requires. Has anyone gotten it to work on a 2010 mac pro or 2021 MBP?

From what I can find. You need at least Sandy Bridge for AVX support. So the 2010 MP is out. Nor can you run AoE IV in crossover or Parallels on M1 due to the lack of DirectX 12 support. Which will supposedly be added to Crossover in 2023.

But I’m not sure if AVX emulation on M1 is feasible.

Dont think so because of your GPU setup. There is a site called Can I Run it that perhaps will give you more info. If anything only your M1 mac may work with parallels.

Something wrong with the VEGA 56? Most powerful GPU the 2010 can have under Mojave still. Thought my main issue would be the lack of AVX support for my CPU.

FYI that you CAN get around AVX, I have done it successfully for a few games -- Cyberpunk, Wolfenstein Youngblood, etc...

Although, in some cases, other features (such as multiplayer) may not work (this has NOT been my experience however) -- the games I listed above, I was able to play completely, for months, without any issue after the hack.

Just google it

The people saying AVX is a limitation are completely clueless, and the guy talking about parallels -- 🤦‍♂️

Wouldn't you need Parallels to run it on Windows? Or can you get it working on Crossover?

Good to know about AVX. Never tried something requiring that.

On a cMP (the purpose of this forum), you simply boot into Windows via OC or Boot Camp (which is a full Windows install) and then install and play the game as if you would on a normal Windows PC.

If you are asking about M1 and Apple Silicon -- this is not the forum for that.
