OS X Age of Wonders 3 is available for the Mac!

Finally Age of Wonders 3 is available for the Mac! This is a popular turn-based fantasy strategy game from Triumph Studios that is available from Steam and GoG.
They are releaseing the Mac version together with the new Necromancer dlc for the game.
It's really cool that developers of these type of games are releasing their games for the Mac these days.

Unfortunately, GOG.com is only carrying the Windows release currently. I just checked as I had noticed that earlier to see if it had changed.

I'd like to see it come to the Mac App Store myself but eventually I will get it on Steam if it doesn't.

I used to prefer Steam but I've increasingly been gravitating towards the app store when possible. It's a minor point but I hate how often Steam puts generic Steam icons for games in Launchpad. It really irks me. I like the cool looking game icons. More importantly, I enjoy launching directly into a game without delay. I know I could keep the Steam app running constantly to speed game launches but I don't like to keep anything running constantly that I am not actively using.

You can get the correct icon by going into ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common, then finding the appropriate folder, which will have the actual app in it, with (usually) a proper icon. Then you can copy and paste the icon. Yes it's annoying.

Anyway, yep, bought it, played it for 5 minutes and it seems to run well. It will be a while before I actually play it for real, though, since coincidentally I've been playing Age of Wonders II via Crossover, and after that is Shadow Magic.

ITT, I learned that people actually use Launchpad.

Well, actually I usually drag whatever I am currently playing out of there to the dock.

I will confess though I have stuff grouped in launchpad by type of app, then genre of game so it isn't hard to find stuff I don't keep on the dock. In my defense here, I find this more expedient than using Finder and I refuse to go back in time to typing the name of a program even if Spotlight is certainly simpler than navigating a directory tree, etc., etc. using the CLI of days gone by. Well, mostly gone by for this old man!
