In a van down by the river
Has anyone used the Agenda app for journaling and other longer writing? I know DayOne is the gold standard when it comes to journaling. I have used it before but, was looking to cut down on my subscription list. Is using Agenda in such a manner practical?

I’ve been thinking of doing the same. There is no reason why you couldn’t use it. Agenda supports date-based note-taking, which is exactly what a journal is. While DayOne has a lot of shiny features, I think Agenda has the basics covered, and you can insert photos, attachments, drawings, etc. I also prefer Agenda’s pricing model over that of DayOne’s, but that’s a personal preference.

A one time fee of $35 unless you want to upgrade to new features after more than 12 months is a lot better than $35 a year, even though I can easily afford DayOne.

Agenda (from advertising) appears to be packed with features especially for free. I need to look and see if it offers any security.

Edited to add: I am not seeing a way to password protect the app from opening or individual files or folders, unless I am missing something obvious.

I just had a reply from Agenda staff and was told they are actively working on adding password protection to the app, With that revelation, I will give Agenda a run and see how it fares. If it doesn't work well, I will look into IA Writer.

Nothing against the apps listed above, but I'll offer a sort of poor-man's journaling app. I use Pages for my journaling. I can set background colors for each section as well as headers and footers to document them. I can also add objects and pictures to the background of each section. I wrote a few Applescripts to add the date or a run of dates. I can also add images, tables and charts inline with the text.

I had been using a simple text editor for this but switched to using Pages. It works for me. I just need a simple tool to record some daily information. This way I can use a familiar tool without learning new commands.

That is a good idea. Thanks for the reply. I have never used the script creator. Automatically adding the date to any Pages document would be handy.
