But I foresee a good chance I will capture and store more images incl video, and I intend to keep this phone for 4-5 years rather than 2-3 years for 11pm and previous 8+, and 2 for 6 and 4s.

Apart from double the memory storage, can anyone challenge the understanding that 512GB will process quicker, cooler, more efficiently particularly after it swings past 256GB? And does anyone know whether 512GB flash in iPhone is single chip or multi-chip? I understand most/all decent 256GB flash is now single chip, but performance is optimised. 512 and 1024 flash is understood to have performance dip under circumstances, as single chip configuration.

Focus on if you plan on taking 48MP photos as those are 50-70MB each.

Forget about the performance aspect as that's negligible. Nobody ever said they needed to replace their 32GB iPhone 7 because it was appreciably slower than the 128GB model.

As mentioned, performance difference isn’t something you’re going to notice so don’t buy based on that, just buy based on if you need that storage or not. Large photo files, videos and games can take up storage.

Always better to have too much than not enough…

This!
I have an X 256GB and was planning to buy a PM256GB but in the end I got a 512GB because it needs to last 4 years. Apps will only get larger, and so do photos and videos.

Go for the 1TB!

Well, that's what I'd do anyway.

But…few people have regretted having too much. Many have regretted not having enough. Once you make the choice though, that's it. Short of returning and getting a brand new device and whatever machinations that will then require of you, you are stuck with the choice for however long you have the device.
