Is it just me or does windows steal an awful amount of ideas of apple.

frontrow vs windows media centre
apples dock vs longhorns identical dock
dashboard vs Goowy see (Goowy.com)
Mac office layout vs vista's "ribbons"

Am i right in saying that apple were the ones who are the theorists behind all of these ideas? why havent they patented them?

Ideas travel many directions. Although we like to think of Apple as the innovator and Microsoft as the follower, they have both had original ideas and played off the ideas of others as well. Occasionally, there are specific technology patents involved, but usually not.

There have been many times in the past that this has happened. Watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley". Good movie. But you also should know that Apple is not always the inovator. There are other companies out there that have used stuff and Apple has taken from them. But that is a sign of a good company. One that can come up with new stuff and take something from someone else and make it better. MS may be doing a little more taking than making but it is all business.

Though you're right Microsoft steals a lot from Apple, Windows Media Center was made before FrontRow. Like three years beforehand. It was pretty much theft that Apple did, but a damn good job of thievery.

Microsoft, though, should have the hell sued out of them. Vista is like... "Hey, Microsoft team! Why don't we take all of the cool features from Mac OS X, make them crappy, then make them ugly and call it a 'brand new release which nothing like it has been seen before?' "

I'm pretty sure Media Center was released far before Front Row had been concieved.

apologies, ive never even heard of media centre before today. i just get the feeling after talking to a friend about vista that a few features have already been used in Mac osx.
Any comments on goowy though, thats a joke. its literally no different to dashboard at all. maybe im just stupid but geez. lol

Uh, some of the guys not working on Vista itself (but are at the big Redmond campus) are laughing at Vista for boldly going where everyone has gone before. Without WinFS and a couple key features that were pushed back to the version after Vista... it is a bit of a joke.
