Is it a Mac Pro? Is it an HP Z8xx series?

Lots of folks here consider you an edge case, but at the Mac Pro press meeting Apple held, they admitted that we are a small but vocal and vitally important group whose needs they intend to address.

What are you rocking now, and what would you like to see in Mac Pro 7,1?

My bread and butter today is system administration, but rapidly transitioning to a compute centric workflow. Currently pushing well beyond the limits of MP 6,1 expansion.

What will it take to keep you here?

Me? Pretty much Apple's version of a slick HP Z series with plenty of Thunderbolt AND PCIe expansion. Otherwise, Mac workstation and linux / freeBSD clusters.

What's keeping you here?

Home: (personal) T3610, 6-core T-3610 (same E5-1650 v2 as hex MP6,1), 128 GiB RAM, GTX 960
Office: (company) T1650, quad core, 32 GiB RAM, GTX 960 (just a thin client for the Linux/Windows systems in the datacenter).

2. Correct. Nor an Apple laptop. I like my touch-screen ThinkPad.

3. I'll buy Apple laptops for our people who want them, but the MP6,1 would never be considered. We have some Pascal eGPUs on a few T-Bolt 3 Apples. (Our production software runs on Linux, so for the most part the Apples are thin clients to the big machines that do the heavy lifting.)

I guess I lead a VERY sheltered life, as I had absolutely no idea who Mr. Shaw is. A Google search cleared it all up, It's something I choose to not think about.

@AidenShaw Thanks for indulging me. It was actually hearing you and some others extolling the virtues of the HP Z series that got me looking into them for possible Hackintosh. Now that eGPU and VR are getting some attention, I'll milk my old 6,1 till 7,1 drops.

Did you use Mac Pros in your current environment, and would you give the 7,1 serious consideration for your personal machine? Assuming it's say on par with the Z800.

CUDA is very important for us, it seems unlikely that anything from Apple will be worth considering on the compute side. Some of our people use Apple notebooks as thin clients to the x64 Linux systems.
