Heres a tip I stumbled upon accidentially.

1. Go to aim.com and set up aim to foward ims to your cellphone http://mobile.aol.com/mobileaim

2. Log into one of the various aim proggies, to view your online buddies.

3. Send im to that buddy.

4. Log off of the proggy.

5. It will automatically foward their im to you as a sms message.

This will keep you from having to have the program running using edge and forcing all calls to your voicemail.

Ive used this for a few days, saves my battery and lets me stay in contact.

Hope this helps.

well if you have an unlimited sms plan you have nothing to worry about

I use AIM-to-SMS every day... it's much better than any of the web-based ones because it actually functions like SMS... meaning I get notified when I receive an AIM message.

I have unlimited messaging, so it doesn't matter when it comes to the monthly fee.

Go to google and look up AIM to SMS and you'll find lots of info how to do it. Getting logged in initially is a little clumbsy, but once you know how to do it, it's easy as pie.

I still hold out hope for iChat soon ;)
