agh! i JUST got a new iMac G5 (isight) yesterday. all is running smoothly, EXCEPT AIM. It is constantly crashing. I get an error message. I don't remember exactly what it said, but i know the options i could choose included "reopen" and something like "submit error" i have tried reinstalling numerous times, but it hasn't worked. if anyone could help me, i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,
alex

Just use iChat it is a very stable aim client that already come preinstalled on your mac.

another vote for iChat... way better than AIM, I hate using AIM now that I've used iChat, its far superior, easier and now ads

you can so direct IMs in iChat, all you have to do is drag pics/files etc in the box where you type and press enter, it automatically sends it and connects to the other person if they are on iChat or AIM. what else can you only do on AIM?

yeah, all of those are better than AIM, but iChat is still the best, once you really get into OS X and the overall minimalist look, you will start to appreciate iChat more.

Adium is fantastic! I started using that so I didnt have to tolerate the infinite crashes of msn, and its so much better. You can connect to aim, msn and yim on it, and all at the same time, so I highly recommend it. Steer clear of anything AOL touched. iChat is ok too.

iChat is nicely integrated into the OS, but it's not minimalistic. That huge brushed metal window clutters up any desktop.

Adium is the best out of the all the IM programs out there. It can be whatever you want it to be. Tabs are a must in any program where multiple convos can happen. And the notification system is grand.

Proteus is bloatware. 'Nuff said.

Adium is great, (best AIM client I've ever seen anywhere) but direct connect often does not work. I usually keep regular AIM running in the background for sharing files/images.

Adium gives me problems with receiving files over AIM, otherwise it's awesome. I use iChat when I have to for file transfers and with my soon-to-have iSight. I see no reason why anyone should need AIM at all.

adium is nice, but If you only use Aim than I think iChat is much better, the iChat windows are definately minimalistic compared to adium, maybe you need to have more open, but there is much less stuff shown, I only care about seeing what I said and what they said, I dont need all these other little options, the iChat windows are small and sleek with no frills, just what you need, its pretty basic, but its never caused a problem for me and direct messaging is only an issue if you are transfering stuff to someone on an older AIM client.
