I've tried everything to get my airport exterme card to pick up my wireless router (my other computer, a PC, does so no problems) so I'm thinking I might have a faulty airport card.

Is there any way to test if my airport card is searching for a wireless network, and to test thats its actually funtioning?
The drop down list for the network in Tiger does not detect any network at all.

Thanks

I assume you don't have activated closed networking or hav the network secured so only the PC may connect. Perhaps you could try to download MacSniffer (hope I remember the name correctly) from Versiontracker and check if this app sees the network.

I have a new PowerBook running Tiger. The 10.4.2 update caused me to have similar problems that you are describing, with my PowerBook not detecting my wireless network.

Im not sure if this totally and properly solved the problem but I changed the channel of my wireless router and my signal seems better now with less drop outs. Plus since changing the channel my PowerBook hasn't told me it cannot find the wireless network.

See if this helps.

Just a thought but your router is broadcasting its SSID? You haven't closed the network in which case the PB won't show the network in the drop down. You'd have to click on Other and enter the name/password to get on. If that doesn't work, then try turning off any security on the router (temporarily) and see if the PB sees it then.
