Anyone out there upgrading from an Air 2 to the new M1 iPad Pro?

I am thinking about upgrading. I use my Air 2 mostly for video watching and am thinking that with iPadOS 15, it will no longer be supported. I know it will still be useable after it is not supported but with the Air 2, the speakers really kinda suck. My iPhone 11 Pro has so much better speakers for watching video, etc. So that’s why I’m thinking to go with the pro for the speakers. Are the speakers on the pro models really good?
So basically, is anyone out their upgrading an Air 2 to the new M1 and your thoughts/opinions.
Thanks.

While non audiophile material the speakers are certainly way more capable in a current iPad Pro compared to the Air 2.

I am going from the Air 2 to M1 Pro 11, but speakers are not high on that list of why I'm upgrading ?

My main reasons for upgrading are in this order:
  1. 8gb of RAM
  2. M1
  3. Apple Pencil 2
  4. Smaller bezels
  5. ProMotion 120hz
  6. Face ID
I wish it came with XDR, but I've been holding out for so long that these list of upgrades are enough for me to make the jump now.

That is an expensive upgrade for video watching.

Lol, my aunt recently bought a 2020 iPad Pro 128GB Cellular for the full $1150 MSRP. She dropped her 2017 iPad Pro and needed to replace it ASAP so she can continue watching her Korean dramas. An extra $150 for the 2021 would've been negligible. I'm pretty sure her handbag cost more than the iPad anyway. :p

She can easily afford it anyway. Besides, she's very generous. She's sent help to relatives in the Philippines several times this year so they can buy rice and she's usually the first person the family approaches for help.

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe the pro is too much for what I want to use it for. Still deciding on if I should go with a pro or a cheaper one or keep the air 2 for a while. Nice to see other people’s insight.

You are going to love it! I upgraded from Air 2 to 2020 iPad Pro 11” last year and boy what a jump that was due to all the years I have skipped all those small and big improvements made for a huge one when I made the jump to iPP.

YES, the speakers on iPad Pro are FAR better than Air 2, you can actually hear the bass and stereo separation if the movie/video you are watching or song you are listening to is done in stereo.

The screen is also going to be nice upgrade for watching videos and movies as you will now have a 120hz screen with HDR support that can play at a much higher resolution.

All round well worth it, IMO, especially because you to seem to keep your iPads for a long time. :)

Upgrade from an Air 2 to a Pro 12.9” 2018 in October 2019. Another world. I use it every day for studying and reading and writing papers at most; also for surfing web and watching series/movies. Better screen, better speaker, Pencil 2 was gorgeous.

if you can afford it and if you think you will use it more also for work, it will be a win win upgrade.

I'm in the same boat as you, I was hoping to replace my aging iPad Air 2 this year but I am going to wait until next March for when Apple is rumored to upgrade the iPad Air (and possibly the 11" iPad Pro) with OLED displays (Kuo reported this too). I too use my iPad for video, so high screen quality is a must. It stinks having to wait another year, but it will be worth the wait.

I’m keeping my Air 2, but also buying the 2021 Pro 11. Being that the Pro is such a leap, you may discover more creative uses for it than you did with your Air. My Mom uses her Pro mainly for drawing with her Apple Pencil.
