I am interested in getting a 24'' imac. they are simply beautiful. i now have an air as my primary computer and was wondering how people use their air if they use it as a secondary computer to an imac or other desktop. i know its portable and all, but for me, its fine as a primary computer and it sits on my desk as a desktop 90% of the time.

should i just sell the air and go for the imac, or would the air be of use.

btw, this is just an "im wondering situation" and love the air. i just want to know how you guys do it. i probably wont go for an imac anytime soon, and when i do, i'll probably sell the air as it will be no use. or i'll just stick with the air. i just cant justify having 2 computers and was hoping you guys could let me know how you balance having 2 computers.

if you have the extra cash then YES the Air is the perfect second machine, actually for me it's the perfect main machine, and I switched from a MBP 2,16ghz core2duo, no regrets so far

If you're planning to sell the air anyway (if you get an iMac) then it probably doesn't matter how it's used a secondary machine, unless you wanted to use the two in tandem for a long time.

If you get on fine with the air, I'd probably keep it and save myself the money.. That's just me obviously, ymmv.

If you're fine with the Air, keep it. Only consider switching to a desktop if you need more power or a bigger screen, because that's all you'll be gaining, while losing portability. Even if you only need the latter 10% of time.

I'd say a desktop and Air will work great together for someone who needs a light laptop and can do whatever they need a desktop for at home (or at work. Or whenever their desktop stays).

That's how my setup is right now, with my iMac as my primary and Air as my secondary (that I am typing from at school right now). I use Back to My Mac frequently and find that it compliments the iMac fine. For all my friends that love the look and style of the Air, I still recommend a MB or MBP to them, because they don't have desktops. If you can afford it I say go for it!

mate why dont you do the cheap and also much better option

you said the air is aplenty fast for you? what you want to do is get an external monitor - a nice 24" (about £150 for a good one - more for an apple branded one ) and a wireless keyboard and mouse and when your at your desk you have a nice big monitor keyboard and mouse and if you ever need to use it on the go you can aswell!
