Air - Best of both worlds...

Since iPad came out, I've been eagerly wanting to buy it but since I live in Malaysia, it came by late. But I guess it's okay, since by around the time the iPad is available here, the new Air was out. Macs here get updated around the same time as other countries'.

By the time both were out at the same time, I was torn. I'm a big fan on OS X, I just love the way it works, and knowing that Lion, which is more iOS-like than Snow Leopard is will be coming out soon, I just felt that I would want my device to run on OS X.

The iPad suits everything I need: Long battery life, e-mail, IM, etc. But what it lacks is the power of OS X.

Suddenly, it came to me, the lightness of Air + OS X = something like iPad, but better!

Now, here's how I use my Air. I installed insomniaX, so I could play iTunes while its lid is closed. It's now sorta like an iPod, only it runs on OS X.

I guess, Air just diminished my need for an iPad with OS X on board.

Both uses flash memory, but only one has OS X, and that is Macbook Air

I'm not too crazy about Lion introducing iOS features back to OS X. I understand their trying to bring the features that are popular in iOS to the Mac so it gets popular as well (more than it already it, i guess), but I think there should be a line of separation between iOS devices and desktop-class operating systems like OS X and Windows, but it doesn't seem that the tech industry is heading that way.

Just my 2 cents.

Yup! I did and it might sound crazy at first, but after reviewing my needs and work pattern, Air is all I needed.

Thanks! I'm glad that it's a purchase that gave me some bragging rights!(to myself for justifying this purchase )

It's true, desktops and mobile devices are definitely different. One is more for hardcore jobs while the other is for on-the-go chores. But still, having a little bit of each in OS X would be great, at least for us consumers. However, I'm not so sure about companies that run serious businesses would want their computers to look like overgrown iPhones do they? I mean, I haven't seen any cashiers in my country using an iPad(yet).

Maybe business = pixelated black and white UI in some companies' policy

It truly is pretty amazing. But MBA is one of the speediest "Netbook" (11") on the market. Obviously, that comes with a cost. But not alot of companies have C2D in there netbooks.
