An engineering masterpiece?
If you remove two cameras.
If you remove a speaker.
If you remove a core.
If you halve the battery.
If you remove the lidar.
If you remove the vapor chamber.
There's an engineering masterpiece.
If they also removed the display and used a rubber body, they could even create something incredible that could roll up.
The stroke of genius would have been to do it while keeping everything

What is the point of your post? Do you just want to argue with people?

I like the Air but find it wildly flawed. I'd personally never consider this version. I'm also not starting threads to start a pointless argument.

It was probably proposed internally as a marketing and engineering masterpiece. An iPhone designed by Apple for Apple. So of course execs gave it a green light.

The MBA guys at Apple loved it because they could charge more for less resulting in higher ASP and margins. The Apple engineers loved it because it was a prestige project. Where else could they show off their skills with no regard for actual customer demands?

The result was, real world customers hated it.

That's not how engineering works...

Having a device nearly as thin as its charging port and as light as a deck of playing cards with nearly all day battery life, one of the best primary camera sensors on the market, and the highest level of durability ever in an iPhone IS an engineering masterpiece however.

Perspective is everything.

I’d argue that the Air is an engineering marvel, while the 17 Pro Max is quite the opposite.

Of course you can add more and more cameras, run at faster speeds, and fit a larger battery if you’re willing to make an enormous phone with an enormous hunchback to fit it all in. 🐪

iPhone Air designers actually had to try. They had to plan within size constraints.

An engineering masterpiece?
More like a design masterpiece. Removes all the fluff.
If you remove two cameras.
I have one camera on my iPhone Xr. Works great for taking random shots of everyday stuff.
If you remove a speaker.
I never use speaker. Only AirPods.
If you remove a core.
What’s that?
If you halve the battery.
Still better than on my 6 years old Xr which is still all day battery life for me.
If you remove the lidar.
That’s too bad for the two people in the world who use it. I guess they have to look at another model.
If you remove the vapor chamber.
What’s that? Never heard.

Keeping everything most people don’t need? No. Because those who do, can buy Pro.

I suppose you could complain a Porsche 911 only has 2 seats, a soft-top and no self-drive but then you’d completely miss the point of its existence.

To me this reads more like a "I have never owned and daily used the iPhone Air but I will hate on it anyway" type of thread. It is not a perfect iPhone however with that said is still a wonderfully thin and light device with a 6.5" screen and is more built for a niche group of people.

Not everyone is supposed to love this iPhone however that does not make this iPhone a terrible device to own and use. It takes excellent pictures, is light enough to hold and use with one hand, although you might have to shuffle the phone some to reach all the points, is powerful enough to do anything you need to do, with exception of video editing (you should be using an adequate laptop or desktop computer for this) and is exceptionally thin (yes I said this again) and balanced. Very elegant device in comparison to the utilitarian looks of the current Pro series iPhone.

Lol, all they need to do with the Air 2 is completely remove the battery make it 1mm thin, THAT will be an engineering masterpiece, people will tell you “well I don’t use the battery anyway”. :p

I think the air is a amazing device it has a lot of advanced features in it and is a nice looking phone the one camera does not bother me but having a one mono speaker would be a deal breaker for me as I love having two stereo speakers on my phone I don’t always have access to my my headphones or airbuds to listen to the sound so that would be my main problem with the air!
