I'm a windows media center guy and know little about airplay :)

I've been toying with the idea of adding airplay to my setup and had a few questions

I would like to be able to control airplay with my iphone or iPad. I always have one of them with me

Currently I have all my music on my main htpc server that sits in a closet. If I put airport expresses or apple tvs in all the rooms I want my music in can I stream the music from my main htpc to all the "zones"? Will I be able to control the music playback with my iPhone? I don't want to have to go back to the main htpc to change anything.

I have airplay setup so that I can go from my ipad to my windows media centers. Is there a way to go from one media center to the other using airplay if i have iTunes running on both machines? Again is there a way to control it with e iPhone?

Thanks

If you connect you itunes home sharing to the same apple idnas the home sharing of the apple tv you can stream np

Apple release an app that can control the apple tv. It's called remote

What about controlling the airport express via iPhone? I don't have a digital audio connection in every room.

Im either retarded or just not understanding the capabilities of airplay. Im trying to get a sonos type experience without spending a ton of money.

I have multiple computers (HTPC's) in a closet each connected to a TV in different rooms. What i want to do is use my iphone or ipad to control the music in each room.

I have been able to get itunes home sharing to play music that is specifically on that rooms itunes library with the remote app on my iphone.

What i want to do is be able to turn on multiple rooms all playing the same music (from a single computers itunes library) with my iphone. I believe this would work if i purchased an airport express for each Television. That isnt something i want to do however.... Seems like a computer running itunes should be able to do this?

I just want to be able to run an app and be able to select what rooms are going to play the music

Ya, whole house or multiple rooms is not an Airplay feature. You can do a single room with tremendous remote control from your ipod\ipad\iphone. Or, just look at a multizone receiver.

Well that stinks. I thought u could play the same song in multiple rooms just not different songs in rooms. Oh well back to the drawing board I guess

Thanks for the replies

No, no, no. That is certainly possible with Airplay.

You will need an Airplay-compatible device connected to each set of speakers you wish to use. (Duh..)

But in the lower right corner of the iTunes window is the Airplay button. Simply select this and then choose "multiple speakers"

Debref: very cool link. It throws a monkey wrench in my plans. I'm now able to have all my htpc's recognized as AirPlay speakers meaning I can control all of them from the remote app. To make things even better through iTunes I can select multiple speakers and control multiple rooms at the same time! Only bad thing is I can't control the multiple speaker selection with my iPhone. Any fixes for that part :)

Well darn, your right! I just tested this and it works just fine... Hot dog.

Sweet!!!!

Originally I was trying AirPlay through the iPod which didn't allow multiple speakers. Tried it in the remote app and I can select which "zones" I want music in

Thanks a ton everyone !

I wonder, does video streaming work the same way, or is it just music?
