Hallo everyone,

I hope, you have an idea, how I can fix a small, but really annoying problems with my Air Pods Pro.

When I want to use my Air Pods Pro on my iMac, it automatically connects to my iPad when my son is using it. Even it is already connected to the sound on my iMac! When I reconnect with iMac, the movie stops on the iPad. When the movie starts again, my Air Pods reconnect to the iPad. And so on.... (Same problem for iPhone. Really 'fun' when you try listening to music on iPhone...)

The only quick fix I have is to disable Bluetooth on the iPad. But since we also need Bluetooth every evening for other devices, this is also really frustrating.

I tried to change the bluetooth settings on the iPad, but in a hurry I accidentally disabled the Air Pods for all my devices. This was a really unpleasant surprise. I didn't try it again, but maybe there's an option I overlooked.

Does anybody have a good idea, how to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Connect to your AirPod from the iPad and change the “connect to this phone” setting from automatically to when last connect to this phone.

I’m having this problem now. It worked fine until these last updates (I believe that is when it stopped working). I have tried resetting the AirPods Pro, resetting iPad Air 2020 and iPhone 12 Pro Max several times and then I tried this fix and they still aren’t switching automatically. I can switch them manually just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I left the iPhone as is and just changed my the setting on my second phone. It connects to the second device if the first device is off and it sees the second device is doing something audio.

In my case, I usually only use my AirPods Pro one at a time and usually for phone calls and Siri. If my main phone is in my pocket and I turn the second phone on, the AirPod automatically transfers to it. No need to put the AirPod back into the case to do the transfer. It just sits in my ear.

But then will it transfer back to your main phone without you having to do anything? I was able to get it to transfer from my phone to my iPad but then had to manually transfer back to my phone.

It transfers back when I unlock my main phone and interact with it. It will transfer to which ever is the latest to request audio.
So if you’re listening to a podcast on your iPad and a phone call comes in on the phone, when you look at the phone and pick it up the audio will transfer.

You can try this. Listen to a podcast on your iPad with your AirPod. Then open your phone and play a podcast on that... the audio should transfer. Then go back to your iPad and press play, it should route back.

Tried this and still doesn’t work. It used to work very well until the last update. Any other suggestions?

Airplane mode on the off then power cycle all devices signed into your icloud account. Sounds basic but power cycle has fixed issues on my phone before. Hope it works. Maybe someone can think of a setting I didn't think of.

Had already tried that with no success, but I did find the answer online. I had to sign out of my iCloud account and sign back in. Once I did that, auto-switching is back to working like a charm. I think what caused the problem was not the last update but the fact that I had to change my iCloud password because my old one had been compromised.

Thanks for your suggestions! It was unbelievably frustrating after having that feature for awhile then losing it.
