Air Pods Pro 2 - tap case to check if charging?

I saw online that if you want to know if the AirPods are charging, you can tap on them when they are on a MagSafe charger and the case will light up. I cannot seem to get this to work. Is there something I have to do to get this working, or is this set defective?
