One possibility is that the generic version does not work...

My apple USB ethernet dongle works fine on my new 11" Air (just as it did on my first gen Air), although you do have to set it up the first time. Perhaps this is the problem. Have you selected "Network" under "System Preferences" and make sure the configuration reads "DHCP". If it still is not recognized, click on "Assist Me..." and go through the steps to recognize the dongle the first time. If that doesn't work, then I think you need to spend the extra money to get the Apple version.

Hope that helps.

Hi there,Yes ive just tried that under TCP/IP settings and still get the same. Its as though the airs not picking it up....even though its seen visible in the system profiler

The adapter works fine on my PC just no on the air....I think ill have to invest in an official apple adapter even though ive heard this is suitable for a macbook air

Going a little off topic here - One thing im a little unsure of is if im going over wifi is the max transmit rate 130 over a 'N' network?

Thanks

Check the mini CD included with your dongle to see if there are drivers for mac on it. Try installing those.

The third-party gigabit ethernet adapter had issues like this (OSX seemed to recognize the dongle out of the box, but you needed to install proper drivers to get it to work).

If there are no mac drivers on the disk, the dongle probably uses an Asix chip and Asix has drivers here. There are several possible chips your dongle might use so it might take a bit of experimentation (you want the ones under the heading "USB to Fast Ethernet". If Asix says 10.6 should work out of the box and doesn't have a 10.6 download, try the 10.4 one.

Did you get it to work? Im looking for a USB-Ethernet adapter as well for my 2010 Macbook Air 13" but dont want to spend to get the official one.

Anyone know of any other adapter on ebay which has worked?

Yes ..it does work.

The drivers are stored on the cd ,even though there's about 10 different ones.I installed the lot and it picked it up.

My Apple Ethernet adapter works fine on my MBA 11. The big test will be the first time I use it to connect to the internet away from home on a set-up that requires that type of connection. ;)

I'm using my Nintendo Wii usb to ethernet adapter that I've had around the house for the past two years right now on my office pc network!
