I recently used Dosdue1's Catalina Boot Patcher to get Catalina working on my MacPro 5,1. Since that was working, I decided to try and get Airdrop working by installing a new WIFI/Bluetooth card. I got those installed (with some difficulties), and they are working. System Profiler shows I'm running Bluetooth 4.0 and that Low Energy is supported. Wifi works great and my bluetooth peripherals are working well. Unfortunately Airdrop is not. I can not find my MacBook (mid 2013), nor my iPhone 11 nor iPad Pro. Nor can any of these see my MacPro (even the MacBook Pro looking for older devices).

Since there are plenty of people out there who have gotten airdrop working with the same cards I installed, I'm wondering if the issue is that I used Dossdude1's boot patch to get to Catalina since I don't have any Catalina running devices to install from.

I tried to do a clean install of Catalina from recovery, but even though I wiped the drive and asked for no post install patches, some patches remained. I am assuming from the patched recovery partition. I have also tried to replace IO80211Family.kext with the one from Mojave (since I can't find a Catalina version), but that gives a missing dependency error when I rebuild the kextcache and wifi doesn't work after rebooting.

Anyone else run into a similar situation? Were you able to get Airdrop working?

I will have a new computer from work that should be on Catalina in a while and I might try doing a clean install using my MacPro as a targeted disk (or getting an enclosure for one of the drives), but I'm not sure when that MacBook will be arriving, so any ideas on how to get airdrop up and running on my patched system would be appreciated.

I have the same problem, and installed the same Bluetooth4.0/WiFi802.11AC hardware on my MP5,1
All the Continuity processes does not work on macOS Catalina, so I had used different drives with a different MacOS on each drive. The only MacOS that has Continuity processes working very well was on OS HighSierra on the same machine without changing any configuration, just changing the OS. So, the issue is with macOS Catalina on MP5,1. So, I also will like to know if a fix for this issue could become a possibility.

5,1 here running Sierra, with Bluetooth v 5.0.5f4... (Umm - Firmware v208 c518... ? What else do you need to know?)

Airdrop has never worked... doesn't see anything when I go into it... very frustrating...

I have all continuity process(handoff, airdrop, and Apple Watch unlock) working with Mac OS High Sierra. It’s not Sierra. And WiFi 802.11AC with Bluetooth 4.0 Network Card.
