Airdrop does not work in both directions

With my M1 iMac I can reliably airdrop to iPad or iPhone but airdropping TO the iMac is mostly not working. Sometimes it works, sometimes it tries and fails and sometimes the Mac is not even recognized, even when putting the iPad directly beside. And ideas? Running Sonoma 14.7 and iOS/PadOS 17.6.1

Obviously it is not a widespread problem here. Perhaps it is a simple defect of the bluetooth receiver in the iMac? Probably it is not worth it to pay for repairs.
