I have a problem with AirDrop. It does work but for some reason my contact's photos don't show either when I send to them or they send to me.

Even if I AirDrop from my own iPhone to iPad I don't even see my own contact image. Just a grey and white default profile image.

I am signed into iCloud. I have signed out and back in. I have rebooted. I've tried everything.

I have 3 macs and 2 iOS devices and I get this problem on 1 Mac and 1 iOS device. They are all signed into the same iCloud account. It used to work fine. It's as if the device doesn't recognise that it is logged into iCloud.

What more can I try?

I think I ran into this as well, or some flavor of it. I have an iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6S Plus both on iOS 9.3.1. I also have an iMac on 10.11.4 and a Macbook Air on 10.11.3. The iMac and Macbook Air are late- and mid-2012 devices, respectively. All four of these devices are logged into my iCloud account. My wife has the same Macbook Air, on Yosemite 10.10.5, signed into her iCloud account. All devices have AirDrop set to "Contacts Only".

AirDrop works fine between all devices -- except the iMac on 10.11.4. When I go into AirDrop in Finder on that iMac, it sees none of the other devices. But the other devices see the iMac (and can send files to it) -- with a grey profile image and the machine name, not the user name. Like this pic, taken from my iPhone 6S. "worf" is the iMac, obviously (yeah, Star Trek hostname theme here, /sigh...) My Macbook Air on 10.11.3 is shown with my profile avatar, my name and machine type. Not sure what the deal is here, and why the iMac cannot see other devices.

My iMac fixed itself after signing out and in of iCloud and rebooting.

The only way I could fix my phone was to use the reset all settings option. Note that does not wipe your phone, just the settings.

Good to know about the iOS side of things, in case we run into that later.

I had a feeling that simply signing out/in of iCloud would resolve it. I effectively did the same thing but in a more convoluted manner and minus the reboot: removed ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo.*.plist , killed cprefsd, logged out, logged back in. Then in iCloud settings, simply had to re-enter my password (which presumably re-creates that plist) and then AirDrop was well again.
