So been playing with GM since it was released and couldn't get the other machines in my office to appear under Air Drop when I clicked on the icon. Thinking it was a bug I spent hours digging around trying to find out why

Today after playing with it I finally find the issue. Both machines have to be on the AirDrop page in Finder for them to appear!?! I mean honestly apple - you want to make file sharing easy. This complicates the hell out of it. I tell my wife that I can share a file with her but she has to go into Finder and then click on AirDrop and accept it. Hell I could just connect to her Public Drop Box folder and drop it in there with out her interaction.

How come they wouldn't run this as a service in the background. Then when I share a file - it prompts her on the screen.

FAIL

/end rant

It's actually a feature.

AirDrop visibility

When you close the Finder window or click outside AirDrop, your Mac is no longer visible to other users.

It makes more sense like this.

I can imagine a background service being abused, imagine being at a public library trying to do research on the internet with some troll spamming you constantly with a porn film.
