AirDrop in Yosemite Problems

So AirDrop works like this with my devices. I can AirDrop between my iPhone 5S and iPad 4. I can send from my MBP to my iPhone and iPad.

What I can't do is receive to my MBP from my iPad and iPhone. Does anyone know of a fix for this? It used to work before I updated to 10.10.1.

Hi, I had the same problem: I could to airdrop between my iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2 and from my MBP mid 2012 to them, but not airdrop from my divices to my MBP.

​

I could fix it, logging out and logging in iCloud account of the all devices. Case solved.

I rebooted my iPhone 5S and Airdrop started to work again. It's so fickle.

I've been through all the steps mentioned in the MacWorld article and AirDrop doesn't work for me with my iPhone 6 plus and rMBP or MBA.
It sometimes sees those computers as available to send to, but it just gets stuck on "waiting". The computers also sometimes display the iPhone as available after leaving AirDrop open for a few minutes but trying to send a file just fails after waiting a minute or two.

It works as advertised between computers but it's not deserving of calling it a mixed bag, since it mostly doesn't work at all. And there I was, so happy I wouldn't have to use e-mail, iMessage or a cable to send myself a picture or document to the rMBP.
Oh well, maybe they'll make it work by this time next year.

Same here, I can send file from my mac to iPhone or iPad easily. But when I'm trying to send from iPhone, it doesn't detect my Mac instantly like my iPad. After waiting few minutes, my iPhone will eventually recognized my mac and I can send the file.

All I did was reboot my iPhone 5S, turned on bluetooth, and immediately did an AirDrop to my MBP and it started working again. It's pretty fast too. I really don't know what caused it to stop working.

No, not today, but it worked yesterday. Can't send from iPhone 5S to MBP again. The fix was short lived. I noticed that AirDrop become more unstable with 10.10.1 update. Very frustrating, but I'm no longer going waste my time looking for a fix. So much for the new fickle features in Yosemite LOL. I wonder if AirDrop works for Tim Cook LOL.

Yeah.. it's fickle at the moment, which is a shame. My experience is like ravipiero's in that I need to wait a few minutes for my Mac to show up on my iOS devices.

For me AirDrop between my 2013 iMac and iPhone 5s has been more fickle than a teenage girl. It's especially bad when trying to send files from my iMac to iPhone. I don't think that one went right once. The other way around it's about 75-25 (hit-miss).

Have you tried to Airdrop directly from your Desktop. What I do is right click on the file, go to Share and choose AirDrop and it picks up my iPhone immediately. I just did it three times and it worked. Btw, I tried it from Finder and it was stuck on "waiting". Oh what fun.

The method on the other hand makes Finder on my Mac become unresponsive to the point where it needs to be relaunched, but yes, it does discover the iPhone quicker, just no results.
